First toilet pee!
Months ago, Alyria would scream anytime we tried to have her sit on the toilet. But the daycare she goes to helps with potty training. And since she started around August, I think she’s warmed up to the idea.
For the past few weeks, she’s been saying “have pee, have pee!” and insisting on using the toilet, typically before bedtime. She would sit on her little toilet, then proceed to get distracted by all the things in the bathroom that she’s seen millions of times already.
For the first few times, we gave her ample time, figuring it was a good change from screaming. But after a few days, we realized, not only was it painful for us to wait too long, it wasn’t a good habit for her. So instead, we would give her a few minutes, then let her know she could try again another day.
But yesterday afternoon, she asked to go pee a bit after she’d woken up from her nap. I figured it was going to be yet another few wasted minutes, but I knew it was best to honor her request.
We went to the bathroom, I helped her get her diaper off, and she sat on the toilet as usual. And then came the beautiful gentle thudding sounds of liquid on plastic! I was so excited, I had to yell over to mom and say “She did it!”. Mom had to remind me that we’re not supposed to get so excited about it, lest we put too much pressure on her.
We then proceeded to show her the next steps of toilet time... wiping and emptying out the toilet.
