Screaming to sleep
I've mentioned before that every since she was a baby, Alyria would scream herself to sleep. While she does that less often these days, it still happens sometimes. Lately, however, the bigger issue has been not taking her naps or taking way too long to go to sleep at night.
We’ve tried to suggest a few things for her... deep breathing, closing eyes, maybe some light singing, etc. So yesterday I decided to test her... I asked, “Alyria, what are some things we can do when we’re trying to sleep?
She said a word I couldn’t quite understand. So I had to ask her a couple times. Finally she just belted out, “aaaaahhhhh!!!!”. And I realized, “oh! screaming!”. “Screaming and singing,” she said.
I couldn’t help but laugh. We speculated before she could talk that perhaps crying was how she soothed herself. All the same, all this time, I was worried that perhaps we weren’t comforting her enough or understanding what she really needed. And now she literally tells me thinks of screaming as a way of falling asleep. 😂😂😂
